Rowland Center

1

Completed in November 2004, the Rowland Center is a 22,500-square-foot, three-story building built into the hillside that provides a gathering place for students and community groups as well as academic classrooms and arts studios. The design reflects a Vermont vernacular with horizontal siding and limestone similar to Seminary Building used on the façade. It was also designed to be an environmentally sensitive building, using natural and recycled building materials and outfitted with low energy-use mechanical and electrical systems. Movable partitions provide flexible spaces, wired for technology and acoustically separated. The heating and cooling systems also serve the newly renovated Seminary Building.

On the first floor, a modern cafeteria provides students with a wide variety of nutritious choices, both hot and cold, for breakfast and lunch. The new kitchen also functions as a classroom for students studying culinary arts. On the second floor are four spacious classrooms and a language laboratory as well as an office for the Foreign Language Department teachers. Three fine arts studios including a ceramics studio with kiln are in the lower level with large windows looking out onto the Village and Green Mountains beyond.
