Mission

The mission of the Tuttle Library is to ensure that students and staff members have access to a wide range of information tools and technology thereby becoming effective users of information.

The Collections
The Tuttle Library houses a collection of 15,000 volumes with a strength in American history. There is a small periodicals collection, both in paper and in electronic formats. The library participates in the Vermont Automated Library Service which makes it possible for users to access books from any library in Vermont for a specified time.

The collection is organized in conformance with the Dewey Decimal System. There are distinct areas for fiction, nonfiction, biographies, oversized books, videos, audiotapes, professional and reference works. Local Vermont newspapers are available on a daily basis. Articles on and by Vermont authors, on educational issues, and concerning local history can be found in the Vertical File.

Articles about Burr and Burton are also regularly clipped and kept in an annual scrapbook. The library is protected by a security system and every effort is made to ensure that the libraryˆs entire holdings are available to users with the least amount of restraint.

Information Technology
The library uses Follettˆs Unison Program, an automated system that allows users to easily access the collections.

There are networked computers available for use in the Mack Molding Research Area. Students may access their accounts from these computers as well as the Internet. This area is also available for public use during evening hours. Scanners are available as well as zip drives. The librarian also has a small inventory of school supplies, including floppy discs, zip discs, and recordable CDs.

Students are required to have an Internet User Agreement and Update signed by their parents before they may access the Internet. These permission forms are kept on file in the Librarianˆs Office.

The Hunter Seminar Room, located at the western end of the library, is designed like an amphitheater and seats 54. It offers a state-of-art communications systems allowing faculty to present classes using the school wide network, including the Internet, CD-ROMS, DVDs, videos and slides.
