The Lisa B. Tuttle Memorial Library

The Tuttle Library blends traditional print resources with electronic collections and services. As the largest classroom in the school, the library supports the mission of the school by not only teaching the use of the library but also by providing an atmosphere of respect, learning, and growth.

Located in the Smith Center for Science and Communications, the library is a welcoming, light-filled architectural highlight of the campus and a comfortable gathering place for students, providing cozy chairs for reading both inside and out against a backdrop of Manchester Village and the Green Mountains through the floor-to-ceiling windows. The warm Vermont maple and cherry wood furnishings and soothing colors make the library a sunlit oasis for study, research, and reading.

Library Hours
The library is open Monday - Thursday from 7:00 am - 4:00 pm and Friday from 7:00 am - 1:00 pm

The Head Librarian is Merlyn Miller (549- 8122) and the Library Assistant is Deborah Ehler-Hansen
(549-8123).

Services and Resources
The library's large computer area accommodates full classes with wireless projection allowing faculty to share demonstration screens, instruction and presentations. Smaller computer niches allow for drop-in use. In addition, we offer Wi-Fi to students who bring their own laptops.

The Hunter Seminar Room, located at the western end of the library, seats 54 and allows faculty to use its large space and multimedia systems for single as well as groups of classes.

As part of the Northshire Consortium, the Burr and Burton Academy community has 24/7 access to the collections  in our own Tuttle Library, the Mark Skinner Library, and the Manchester Elementary Middle School Media Center.

For materials not available from the consortium, we are members of the Vermont Automated Library System, allowing us to borrow from all state, school, public, college and university libraries in the state.

Students are able to access eighteen scholarly databases from school or home by visiting Burr and Burton's home page at the Northshire Consortium.

The library staff offers reference, research, and reading guidance in an inviting and productive environment.

The Lisa B. Tuttle Memorial Library was a gift to the school in memory of a former student who was tragically killed in a 1977 hiking accident in Austria. The library, as part of the Smith Center for Science and Communications, was designed by the Office of Michael Rosenfeld, Architects, and opened in February 1998.
