School and College Counseling
The School and College Counseling Office counselors assist students' academic and personal development throughout their high school years.
Every student entering Burr and Burton is assigned a School and College counselor as well as a faculty advisor. Together, they work with teachers and other administrators to oversee student progress. This team approach encourages students and parents to discuss issues with whomever they feel most comfortable.
School and College counselors begin the advising process by meeting with new students and parents to select appropriate courses. As the year progresses, interim reports and report cards formally apprise families, faculty advisors, and School and College counselors of student progress on a regular basis. These reports not only reflect academic achievement but effort and attitude as well. The collegial atmosphere of Burr and Burton also provides for more frequent informal reporting among school members.
Preparing students for life after Burr and Burton is an integral part of the overall guidance program. College and career planning begins when a student enters Burr and Burton and selects his or her course work. School and college counselors continue to work with students throughout their four years of high school to help them shape an appropriate plan for their future.
