Update: Daily Schedule for October

October 8, 2020

Dear BBA students and families:

Life on campus is busy with classes, arts, athletics, clubs and leadership opportunities –– Student Council elections were held this week, the girls golf team won the state championship, outdoor play rehearsals contine under the tent, and our fields are busy every day. We continue to make adjustments to cohorts and to approve student/family requests to return to campus for 4 days of in-person classes.

In the October Bullhorn we communicated that Fridays would be hybrid days, but we’ve determined that we have more thinking to do on how best to use the five Fridays in November and December. We have defined our plan for the remaining weeks in October. You can view the daily schedule by clicking on the link below.

Friday, October 16th -- remote day for students (office hours/flex time)
Friday, October 23rd -- Green Cohort in-person day
Friday, October 30th -- day off for students due to Student/Parent/Teacher conferences

PSAT/SAT -- October 14th
Most Juniors will be taking the PSAT on 10/14. Juniors who registered for the PSAT will receive an email communication regarding testing locations and details on protocols.

Seniors taking the SAT received an email communication from Pete Mull with key details.

9th Grade Retreats at the Mountain Campus
Five freshman cohort groups are scheduled to participate in a retreat during the next three weeks. Students and families received an email from Andy Dahlstrom with dates and details. We are excited for 9th graders to connect and build community on our beautiful Mountain Campus.

Progress Grades, Comments, and Parent Teacher Conferences
Effective teacher-parent-student communication is fundamental to student success. Over the next three weeks, through progress reports and parent-teacher-student conferences, students and parents will receive meaningful feedback and essential information to help students continue to grow and learn.

Progress Reports will be released on Wednesday, October 21st. Students will receive progress grades and comments for all semester classes. Progress grades will also be reported for year-long classes, along with a comment if students have a C or below in the course.

Student/Parent/Teacher Conferences are scheduled for 10/29 and 10/30.
October 29th from 1:00  - 4:45 and from 5:45 - 8:00
October 30th from 8:00 - 12:00

More details will follow on the process to schedule appointments, which will take place via Zoom.

Students are welcome and encouraged to attend conferences. This is an important opportunity to meet with teachers to discuss progress. If your son or daughter cannot attend, please discuss the following with your child prior to your scheduled appointments: What do they like best about their classes? Least? What progress are they making? Where are they most successful? What challenges do they face? How are they using Flex Block? During conferences, please share your personal insights regarding your student. It is often this personal knowledge and perspective that teachers act on, and it leads to enhanced student learning.

With appreciation,
Meg Kenny
