COVID-19 Case Confirmed

Dear BBA Community:

We have now received confirmation via PCR test that the student in question is positive for COVID-19. This is what we expected, and we have been proceeding according to plan.
  • The BBA team is working with the Vermont Department of Health. They have identified a very small number of students who may have been exposed, and those families have been contacted. If any additional students or adults are identified, they, too, will be contacted.
  • This case appears to be isolated, with the infection occurring outside of BBA. The Department of Health does not believe there is significant danger of widespread infection at BBA.
  • We will conduct a thorough cleaning and disinfection of the entire school on Monday, a day when students are on mid semester break. We will pay particular attention to any areas where the student spent significant time.
  • The Department of Health supports the restart of athletic practices and competitions immediately as well as a return to school on Tuesday.
Thus, as previously reported, the situation appears well under control.

One question that has arisen is, what constitutes “exposure”?  According to the Department of Health, these are people who were within 6 feet of the infected person for at least 15 minutes. For more information, please see the link below.

If anything changes, we will, of course, keep everyone updated. For now, we can send our hopes for a speedy recovery to the student and family, and we can keep working together to keep our Covid rate as low as possible.

Sincerely,

Mark H Tashjian
Headmaster
