Update and Path Forward

Dear BBA Community:

The purpose of this communication is to update you on the events of the day related to our two Covid cases and to share the path forward. Most important, the student is recovering nicely and feeling better each day. The teacher seems to be heading in the right direction as well, though symptoms persist.

Regarding news of the day:
  • The Vermont Department of Health, based on their interviews with the student, teacher, and the information we provided, see these two cases as connected. Their team is proceeding with contact tracing as they deem appropriate.
  • We also conferred with the Department of Health regarding athletic competition and were advised to take a break from competitions and practices for this weekend.
  • A number of BBA faculty, staff and students have sought testing out of an abundance of caution. We applaud these measures and hope all the results are negative.
  • Neither the student nor teacher who tested positive has been in school since Thursday, October 15. That means that by this Monday, eleven days will have passed, which provides some measure of comfort.
Moving forward, on Monday and Tuesday we will hold classes remotely while resuming athletic activities. We will put out a revised class schedule over the weekend, and athletic director Dave Miceli will share the revised athletic schedule.

Please understand that we are In the midst of a period of unprecedented uncertainty and stress. We are making decisions that incorporate expert input and guidance from the Department of Health, Agency of Education, and our town health official. We are seeking to navigate in a way that protects the health of our community, respects individual privacy, supports families and teachers, and preserves the academic and extracurricular opportunities that are so much at the heart of the BBA experience. At times, these objectives compete with each other, and we are striving to find the right balance while placing students and safety at the forefront.

Thank you very much for your understanding, patience and support.

Sincerely,
Mark H. Tashjian
Headmaster
