Holiday Season Travel Memo

November 12, 2020

Dear BBA students and families,

As we all know, Covid rates are rising throughout the country, and Vermont just experienced a record number of positive cases. With Thanksgiving around the corner, the state has issued stringent travel restrictions, which we share with you in the hopes that all members of the BBA community will honor these restrictions. Our health and well-being as a community depends on each and everyone of us.

The State of Vermont has implemented a mandatory quarantine for anyone returning or traveling to Vermont, including to/from counties in the Northeast previously shown as “green” on the Vermont Agency of Commerce and Community Development travel map. As a result, information about essential travel has been updated, as has information about Vermonters traveling out of state.

  • Anyone returning or traveling to Vermont must follow Vermont’s mandatory quarantine policy. Vermonters returning from an out-of-state trip must complete either a 14-day quarantine or a 7-day quarantine followed by a negative test.
  • Vermonters must remember to follow any travel restrictions and quarantine requirements for the states they plan to visit.
  • Residents of other states must adhere to the quarantine guidelines:
    • Travelers arriving to Vermont in a personal vehicle must complete either a 14-day quarantine or a 7-day quarantine followed by a negative test in their home state and enter Vermont without further quarantine restrictions.
    • Travelers arriving to Vermont who have not completed a pre-arrival quarantine must complete either a 14-day quarantine or a 7-day quarantine followed by a negative test in a Vermont lodging establishment or with friends and family (Travelers must stay in their quarantine location for the duration of quarantine other than to travel to and from a test site.)
    • Read more about quarantining at the Vermont Department of Health website.

Vermont Commissioner of Health Dr. Mark Levine stressed that if you are traveling out of state, you must adhere to the state’s quarantine requirements. Please keep in mind that travel quarantine requirements apply to everyone leaving the state for Thanksgiving. As requested by the governor, we urge families to remain in Vermont for the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday.

Information for Winter Athletes
Our winter sports seasons begin on November 30 and athletes must be at tryouts to participate in the season. Therefore, winter sports athletes will not be able to travel outside the state over Thanksgiving break as they would not have time to complete mandatory quarantine guidelines prior to the tryouts. Also, in all likelihood, winter athletes will not be able to travel over the December break, as practices will be scheduled and athletes cannot miss them due to quarantine requirements.

================

We have all made significant sacrifices during this pandemic. Recent news on vaccines is promising and gives us a glimpse of light at the end of the tunnel. However, it is vital that we all remain vigilant, honor these travel restrictions, and do everything we can to keep COVID-19 out of our school. Our students are counting on us all.

With Appreciation,
Meg Kenny
