Burr and Burton Ready to Celebrate the Class of 2021

Celebrating the resilient spirit of the Class of 2021, Burr and Burton is hosting two weeks of events leading up to the 188th Annual Commencement on Friday, June 4th at 5:00 PM.

Commencement Events

May 24 - May 27: This is the last week of classes and final exams for seniors.

Monday, May 24th: Our 2020/21 Final Assembly, featuring student awards, senior class speaker Mary Mendez and faculty speaker Ken Stefanak, and the yearbook dedication. Family and friends will be able to watch this live-streamed event through a link on the BBA website.

Thursday, May 27: The Senior Bell Ringing is at 2:15 PM. The annual tradition continues with each senior ringing the bell on the final day of classes and exiting the Seminary Building to a round of applause. Many students wear tee-shirts or sweatshirts that represent their post-BBA plan.

Later on May 27th: The Senior Car Parade begins at 5:30 PM. Students will decorate their cars and prizes will be awarded for Best BBA Spirit, Most Artistic and other categories. Burr and Burton invites the entire community to line the parade route and salute the Class of 2021. BBA asks that all community members not stand in roundabouts, follow recent VT COVID protocols, and cheer loudly!

Sunday, May 30: Junior/Senior Prom (6:00 to 10:00 PM under tents on BBA’s Campus). Students and parents, please review prom details and FAQs. We are planning carefully, so we can keep within state guidelines for outdoor events and ensure our community remains healthy for the commencement ceremony.

Tuesday, June 1: Scholarship Night will be held at the Southern Vermont Arts Center, starting at 7:00 PM. Students receiving scholarships will receive an invitation.

Wednesday through Friday, June 2-4: Photo Opportunity at the Senior Steps. This year, we will decorate the senior steps of the Seminary Building with flowers so that students can take graduation photos in advance of commencement. Watch for scheduling details. This is a great opportunity for friends and family to get photos in this special location.

Wednesday, June 2: Commencement Rehearsal is at 12:30 PM in the E.H. Henry Gym. This is an important, mandatory event for all graduating seniors.

Friday, June 4: Burr and Burton Academy’s 188th Annual Commencement Ceremony at 5:00 PM on Frelinghuysen Field featuring the Class of 2021 and keynote speaker Vermont Senator Kesha Ram and faculty speaker Creative Arts teacher Bill Muench. The rain location is Riley Rink. Seats will be arranged on the field spaced for social distancing. Masks will be required. Based on Commencement Reservation Survey additional protocols may be required.
