Homecoming, Starting Now

The 2021-22 Homecoming is underway. Following a school year where nothing was normal and many beloved Burr and Burton traditions were impossible, BBA is happy to bring some traditions back for the 2021-22 Homecoming.

Starting today at 4PM and continuing through the weekend, BBA is hosting a series of varsity and junior varsity games on campus at the Judy McCormick Taylor Field and just across town at the Dana L. Thompson Memorial Park.  As is customary, Homecoming coincides with BBA’s Reunion, so alumni returning to town will have a number of games and events to choose from. 

Athletic Director Dave Miceli talks about the unique opportunities that come from having Bulldogs past, present, and even future all coming together: “There’s always this understanding that the people who came before us helped to make the program what it is; so Homecoming is an amazing confluence of having everyone in one place and knowing that there’s this larger membership in the Bulldog community than the athletes and coaches that are currently participating.”

For a number of logistical reasons, BBA’s Spirit Week will be next week, and it will lead up to the traditional bonfire, which is next Thursday, September 30th, from 7:00 to 9:00pm, and the Homecoming Dance, which is scheduled for Saturday, October 2nd, from 7:00 to 9:30pm outdoors in the Smith Courtyard.

Student Council Vice President Sam Stevenson said, “This year is different because our homecoming week does not align with the homecoming games, but I think students are still excited to show up for our teams this week and celebrate with them next week.”

The Student Council’s faculty advisor, Tom von Allmen said that given the circumstances, which dictate a strong preference for outdoor events, “We're definitely having to get creative in how to make a lot of this happen.”

Thank goodness that Bulldogs have a lot of creative capacity; this year’s Homecoming is the first of many opportunities to realize the school’s theme for the year: Bulldogs United.
