Spring Athletics Roundup

Annabelle Gray '22

We are midway through our spring athletic season, and every team is working hard and playing well.

The boys Baseball team is remaining strong, with an 9-1. In a recent game, Trevor Greene threw a no-hitter through the 6th, and Sebestian Dostal “shut the door for the combined no-no”. They have battled and come out on top of tough, undefeated teams in the state, such as MAU and Brattleboro. Their next game is Thursday 5/12 @ Hoosick Falls at 4:30pm.

The girls Softball team has been working hard and battling tough opponents. Their record is 1-5 but they have a promising season ahead. Their next game is Thursday 5/12 at Poultney at 4:30pm. The month of May has 11 games, so definitely find time to go out and support girls Softball!

Ultimate Frisbee is coming out strong with a 6-0 record. The co-ed team has an electric team dynamic, and works to improve their fitness and skills each practice. Their next competition is this Saturday 5/14 @ Leland and Grey at 4:30pm.

The Girls Tennis team has had an exciting season thus far. Their record is 6-2. Girls have been dominating singles and doubles matches. The next match is today 5/11 at Brattleboro at 4:30pm.

The Boys Tennis team has been working hard and been pretty consistent. They are 5-3 on the season. Winning some impressive matches against non-league northern teams, such as Rice, which ended up being 5-2 BBA. The next Boys Tennis match is today 5/11 at 4:00pm at Brattleboro.

The Boys Lacrosse team is 9-1–knocking down some opponents by as much as 16 goals. They have played mostly out of league games so far, including a few New York State teams (Saratoga Springs, Arlington NY, Christian Brothers Academy, Queensbury, Schulyerville, and La Salle Institute). They have had no problem winning against these tough out of state teams. A few individual recognitions need to be made as well. Senior Emmett Edwards has recently reached 100 career points and 100 career goals. Vote for him for Burlington Free Press Athlete of the week! Matt Grabher, also a senior, and captain of BBABVL, reached 100 career assists on May 4th when playing La Salle Institute. The boys lost to CVU, a rematch of the 2021 D1 VT State Championship game in overtime (8-9). The boys next game is Thursday 5/12 at South Burlington at 4:30pm.

The Girls Lacrosse team is 6-2. They battled their toughest opponent, South Burlington on 4/12 and lost 11-12 in double overtime. The girls have bounced back and been on a winning streak, and hope to continue that throughout the remainder of the season. The girls senior night game is Friday 5/20 at 7pm at Applejack Stadium playing against Woodstock. Senior Tatum Sands was up for Burlington Free Press Athlete of the Week after reaching 100 career goals, and before that 100 career points. Come out and support BBAGVL today 5/11 at 5:30pm vs Rutland at home.

Unified Basketball has come out hot all season and are undefeated with a 5-0 record. Dave Miceli says, “The brackets are out. BBA has earned the number 1 seed and a bye in the first round! We will play on Friday 5/13 at 4pm at home versus the winner of #4 Otter Valley and #5 Springfield.” They are looking forward to the post season games and are hoping to go far. Everyone comes out to the E.H Henry Gym at 4:00pm for the first round of playoffs!

Track and Field may be the biggest sports team BBA has this spring. Every competitor has been working hard in their individual events, gaining recognition as an individual competitor and working for the team. There was a meet on Tuesday, May 10th at home (Manchester Rec park). Although there were many impressive finishes, the most memorable may be when Siobhan O'keefe ‘24 beat the girls school record in the 1 mile time with an outstanding time of 5:10.48. Congratulations to Siobhan!
