Our record is now 0-1. We play next on Wednesday, September 4 at Brattleboro.
Overall we were pleased with our team's play. Essex is a tough team to start the season with, but we held our own and came on strong in the second half. We have a young team and they were able to figure out a lot of how the game works today. Both of the Essex goals were scored when we were playing short because of rules violations (not being 5 yards away on their free hits).
Mac Thuermer played with strength and led the defense in her first full Varsity game. We had very strong defensive play from returning Junior Lola Herzog and Sophomores Charlotte Swenor, Samantha Stevenson and Serena Harris. Junior Abby Farrington controled the center of the field on defense and also helped move the ball up the field in the midfield. Returning Junior Efremia Geralis and Freshman Katie Crabtree moved the ball with precision around the defenders and delivered it to the forward line. Maggie Crabtree came in off the bench to give renewed life in the midfield and played with poise and skill. Our right side offense was sparked by the efforts of returning Junior Celsey McMahon and returning Sophomore Annabelle Gray. The left side was secure in the hands of returning Sophomore Perrin Marion and returning Junior Arden Wojtach. Perhaps some of the most impressive moments of the day came from Sophomore Tatum Sands and Junior Emma Hall, both of whom are brand new to the sport, but played with the skill and confidence of returning Varsity players.
This team has so much potential and we are ready to take on the next challenge!
