BENNINGTON — There was plenty to play for on both sides when the Burr and Burton and Mount Anthony football team's met up at Spinelli Field Friday night for their rivalry clash.

BBA looked to lock up the No. 1 seed in Division II, while MAU was just trying to qualify for the playoffs all together. With the stakes high for Friday night's matchup, it was the Bulldogs that were the clear superior team, grabbing a 57-20 win against their Route 7 rivals.

From the first kickoff, BBA grabbed control. While the Bulldogs were forced to punt on their first drive, MAU fumbled the ball on the return in the redzone. With just 10 yards of field to go, BBA made quick work with a touchdown run from Jake Baker on the first play on the drive.

Baker would end up playing a huge role in the game, especially in the first half, with three touchdowns in the first two quarters. Two touchdowns came on the ground, while the other one was a receiving score.

On the ensuing kickoff after the first touchdown, the Patriots fumbled the ball again and BBA was quick to recover it. A long pass from Baker to Jake Nicholson and two Baker runs later, the Bulldogs were in business with a two-touchdown lead.

A touchdown pass from Joey McCoy to Baker put the Bulldogs up by three touchdowns before the quarter's end. The BBA defense stifled MAU throughout the first quarter, forcing multiple punts, along with the fumble recoveries on special teams.

The Patriots started the second half with the ball, but the Bulldogs continued their stout play with multiple sacks of MAU quarterback Caleb Hay. The Patriots were forced to punt, but BBA's Will Frank blocked the kick, returning it for a touchdown to extend the Bulldogs lead.

MAU started to finds its groove before the half and Hay found Jack Ware for a touchdown pass from almost midfield.

A McCoy-Nicholson connection would extend the lead to 30 points, which held before the half. To start the second half, BBA drove down the field and McCoy found John Morgantini for this third touchdown pass of the day.

MAU answered back with Hay finding Chris Nolan for a 17-yard score, but it was too little and too late for the Patriots to get back into it, as the Bulldogs held them off.

BBA finishes the regular season with a 7-1 record and locks up the No. 1 seed in Division II for the upcoming playoffs. MAU finishes the regular season at 2-6.
