Campers will learn a variety of skills in various styles of dance such as Ballet, Jazz, Hip Hop, African, Disco etc. Basic stretching, technique, and movement will provide dancers with a fun and exciting way to exercise, encouraging students to continue dancing or spark their interest. A general day will start with a warm-up which includes working through the whole body with isolations and stretches standing and on the floor. A basic workout consisting of crunches, push-ups, planks, jumping jacks, etc. will also be part of the warm-up as a form of conditioning. This will give campers an insight on just how much it takes to be a dancer and just how fun it can be to exercise. Each day campers will be taught various combinations and dances that will be put together throughout the week and performed on the last day of camp. Parents and friends are invited to come and support students in their fun and enriching experience in dance.

Emily Owens studied as a Dance Major at Dean college and has trained in Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Modern, Hip Hop, and Contemporary. Her passion for dance was initially sparked by taking part in Burr & Burtons’ summer dance camp since 2005, run by Barb Miceli. Emily has been teaching alongside Claudia Shell-Raposa in the curricular dance class offered at Burr & Burton since 2014. She has taught dance at local Middle/Elementary schools such as Maple Street, MEMS, and Floodbrook. As a choreographer for the BBA Dance Company, Emily’s piece won the award for Excellence in Artistry and Performance at the Lyndon State Dance Festival in 2015. Emily has also served as one of the Head Coaches for the Varsity and JV Dance Teams of 2018. Emily wishes to share her love of dance with students of all ages who want the chance to dance.
