Along with awarding 206 diplomas to the largest senior class in history, Burr and Burton Academy has the distinct honor of hearing from Vermont’s Secretary of Education Daniel M. French, a proud BBA parent, on June 7, at 5:30 PM.
Dr. French served as the Superintendent for the Bennington-Rutland Supervisory Union from 2007-2016, during which he was named Vermont Superintendent of the Year and served as President of the Vermont Superintendents Association. In 2014, he was named to the technical work group that helped design President Obama's National Connected Superintendent’s Summit, and in 2016 he was the recipient of the "Making IT Happen" state educational technology award. Dr. French is a veteran of the United States Army and an honors graduate of the Defense Language Institute, where he qualified as a Korean linguist in military intelligence, and he served in the Republic of Korea with the 2nd Infantry Division which was responsible for the security of the demilitarized zone.
“Dr. French will bring a wise perspective based on a lifetime of service to his country and his community. We are delighted and honored to have this educator, parent, and military veteran add to the inspirational moment of our commencement ceremonies,” commented headmaster Mark Tashjian.
