  • Board Certified Behavioral Analyst

    Burr and Burton Academy seeks a part-time Board Certified Behavioral Analyst to enhance the capacity of teachers and support staff to address the social, emotional, and behavioral needs of all students within the classroom setting. This role is key in promoting inclusive practices, reducing behavioral referrals, and increasing student engagement and time spent in class. 

    Responsibilities:

    - Model and train staff in proactive, classroom-based strategies to support students’ social-emotional, academic, and behavioral needs
    - Provide coaching and in-house professional development to support inclusive practices and Universal Design for Learning (UDL)
    - Collaborate with educators to ensure programming is aligned with students’ academic levels and supports differentiation
    - Support teachers in creating classroom schedules that incorporate strategic breaks to help students build stamina
    - Train staff to collect data for functional behavioral assessments and assist in the development of effective behavioral intervention plans
    - Promote systemic change to reduce out-of-class referrals and increase student success within general education settings

    Qualifications:
    - Current BCBA Certification: The Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) certification is a graduate-level certification in behavior analysis
    - Experience in behavioral coaching, special education, school counseling, or related field
    - Strong knowledge of inclusive education practices, differentiation, and UDL
    - Ability to provide collaborative, strengths-based support to educators
    - Effective communication and training skills

  • Occupational Therapist - part time

    Burr and Burton Academy is seeking an .33 FTE Occupational Therapist for the 2025-2026 school year. The Occupational Therapist, as a member of the educational team, provides related services to children determined in need for the purposes of accessing their educational program. The occupational therapist develops, implements and coordinates an occupational therapy program; providing screening, evaluation, and intervention services.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities
    Assesses students' fine and gross motor skills and functional abilities (e.g., perceptual-motor, hand functions, motor coordination, sensory development, muscle strength, etc.) for the purpose of determining program eligibility and developing recommendations for treatment, appropriate assistive devices and/or school placement to help children meet their educational goals

    Interprets assessment findings, medical reports, and evaluations from other professionals, for the purpose of providing information and/or ensuring that Individual Education Plans (IEP) are appropriate.

    Develops IEPs, interventions and/or educational materials for the purpose of remediating students’ functional motor skill deficits as they relate to accessing their IEP, making accommodations, modifying materials and equipment, teaching compensatory strategies, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and to help children meet their educational goals.  

    Provides direct occupational therapy service, and consultation for the purpose of developing students’ functional motor, self-regulation, and daily living skills in compliance with established goals and objectives and to help children meet their educational goals.

    Identifies environmental barriers and appropriate solutions for the purpose of removing barriers for students with physical limitations and/or identifying appropriate assistive technology.

    Administers occupational therapy procedures and modalities for the purpose of achieving IEP objectives.

    Consults with students, teachers, parents, team members, other personnel and/or outside professionals for the purpose of providing information, developing plans for services, making recommendations and/or coordinating occupational therapy services with those of other disciplines and to help children meet their educational goals.

    Directs the work of support staff (e.g., teachers, paraeducators, and tutors) for the purpose of providing guidance, supervising the implementation of programs, and ensuring that IEP goals and objectives are achieved.

    Instructs students, staff and parents for the purpose of providing information on medical/behavioral attributes, use of assistive devices, sensory processing abilities, and/or implementing plans for remediation of functional limitations and to help children meet their educational goals.

    Collaborates with a variety of groups and/or individuals (e.g., parents, teachers, physicians, administration, team members, maintenance personnel, other professionals, etc.) for the purpose of student assessment, program development and maintenance, sharing information, addressing concerns, resolving issues and providing services in compliance with established special education regulations.

    Responds to inquiries (e.g., parents, teachers, staff, students, etc.) for the purpose of providing information and/or referral as appropriate.

    Prepares necessary written materials (e.g., activity logs, evaluations, progress notes, correspondence, memos, Medicaid billings, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference, and/or conveying information and to help children meet their educational goals.

    Maintains files and/or records (e.g., progress reports, activity logs, billing information, treatment plans, IEPs, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the availability of information as required for reference and/or compliance.

    Participates in meetings, workshops, and seminars (e.g., training, IEP, team meetings, etc.) for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information.

    Researches resources and methods (e.g., evidence based intervention and treatment techniques, assessment tools and methods, community resources, etc.) for the purpose of determining the appropriate approach to assess and address students' functional and educational goals and needs.

    Performs site visits at multiple work sites for the purpose of assessing student needs, implementing educational programs, and providing direct therapy interventions and assistance as required and to help children meet their educational goals.

    Transports supplies and equipment to a variety of sites for the purpose of ensuring the availability of items as needed.

    Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

    Required Knowledge & Skills
    Must hold a valid Occupational Therapy license in the State of Vermont

    Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Therapy or other appropriate discipline plus 3-5 years of relevant experience, or combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills are acquired.

  • Paraeducator

    Burr and Burton Academy is looking for a Paraeducator to support students in grades 9-12.

    Essential Functions - This position will support students with various academic activities. The paraeducator is expected to assist students with homework assignments, class projects, test preparation and other school related activities. The ideal candidate will be flexible, have experience working with children, have excellent communication skills and have the desire to learn new skills. This candidate must also be caring, patient and must enjoy working collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.

    Job Requirements - At least one year of relevant experience preferred. Background check required.

  • Mental Health Clinician

    Mental Health Clinician
    Burr and Burton Academy seeks a full-time mental health clinician, starting August 2025. Candidates should have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, be well versed in mandated reporting laws as they pertain to teenagers and their families, and have strong clinical experience serving teens. Candidates must be licensed to provide psychotherapy in Vermont. A Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker is preferred, as is a minimum of five years of school-based clinical work.

  • Bus and Van Drivers

Pay is highly competitive, ranging from $23 to $29 per hour. We’re seeking both certified CDL and Type II drivers as well as those willing to be trained; we can help to provide training and licensing.
