Student Success Grows at Burr and Burton
New Assistant Director Joins Signature Program Focused on Student Goals, Habits, and Growth

Burr and Burton is delighted to announce that William Canfield of Rutland Town, Vermont has joined the Student Success Program as the Associate Director.

“Over the past eight years, participation in Success has steadily increased,” said program director Jason Pergament. “It was clear that we needed another full-time leader of the program to meet demand and support the wide range of student needs that we were seeing on a regular basis. William’s combination of work experience and personal history make him a real resource for our Success Scholars and the greater Burr and Burton community.”

A proud first-generation college graduate himself, Mr. Canfield served in the U.S. Navy before attending college. After graduating, he gravitated to social work and non-profits, most recently working at as the Home School Coordinator for the BRSU and Currier Memorial School in Danby.

“I’m so excited to be here working with these students,” Canfield said, as Summer Success Camp for incoming freshmen started this week. “There’s a real need to help young people see beyond their current circumstances and experiences -- to envision what they can accomplish by setting goals, developing good habits, and having a growth mindset. Burr and Burton’s commitment to this program is something really special.”

Headmaster Mark Tashjian joined the warm welcome, adding, “I have no doubt that Jason and William will be a dynamic leadership team. We are incredibly grateful to them for their dedication, to this community for embracing the program, and of course to the Stratton Foundation, the O’Neill Foundation, and the Enoch Foundation, whose support has made Success possible.”
