Homecoming Magic

Coach Mull
Those who were lucky enough to be at Applejack Field Friday night witnessed a series of memorable homecoming games. Coach Pat Zihlka's JV Gold girls socred a trio of goals in a matter of minutes; Pete McNealus's JV Gold Boys socred the goal ahead and winning goal in the last second of the first half; Coach Suzanne Mear's Varsity Girls weathered a tough game against a stawlart opponent and punched in the winning goal a few miinutes into overtime. By the time the Varsity Boys took the moon-lit pitch, the dew was heavy and the ball skipped around the cavernous Appplejack Field with blazing speed. The Bulldogs threatened time and time again with wide runs from Will Fox and Johnny Miceli and penetrating interior passes from Walker Brown and Niall Monahan. Ironically the first goal came not from the run of play, but from a low driven free kick from 25 yards by Jayden Bloom in the 32nd minute. River DeFelice, returning from injury, punched in a bouncing ball after a corner with a deft touch. Minutes later Bloom hit this third goal in the last three nights to put the game out of reach. Flourishing in his new role in the midfield, Junior Captain Duncan Champberlain took BBA into the half with his first varsity goal -- a fitting tribute to his dad, Asst. Coach Geoff Chamberlain celebrating his 30th year since his own days wearing a Bulldog uniform. The second half featured many scoring chances and mid-field domination from Elijah Samuelson, Nacho Matas, Madox Matthews, Maximo Hasaj, and Andrew Touissant. The backline of Luke Lehman, Chris Ott, and Mal Rukat stifled any scoring chances by a trio of speedy Fair Haven forwards, Coach Mull praised his Asst. Coaches -- Chamberlain, Pinkus, and Antonez -- after the game for their unflagging commitment to a long tradition of Bulldog excellence. BBA will face traditional rival Rutland on Tuesday at 4:30 on Taylor Field in an effort to stay atop the League leaderboard.
