Choral Concert & Town Meeting on the Arts- hosted by Senator Bernie Sanders

The Burr & Burton Academy Vocal Music Ensemble performed at the Choral Concert & Town Meeting on the Arts hosted by Senator Bernie Sanders on Saturday, April 11, at the Casella Theater on Vermont State University’s Castleton Campus.

Senator Bernie Sanders wrote, "This past Saturday, more than 150 Vermont students, from fourth grade to college and from around the state, joined me at Vermont State University-Castleton for a day of workshops and rehearsals, followed by a student discussion on the importance of the arts and a choral concert. All the performances were fantastic, showcasing some truly talented young people. Once again, this event reminded me how impressive the young people in our state are. It also reminded me how committed teachers, parents, caregivers and community members are to ensuring young people have opportunities to participate in the arts. During my discussion with the students ahead of the concert, it was clear to me that even the youngest performers understand the value of the arts. They shared how the arts can bring people together across geography, language and other differences. They talked about how performing in a group strengthens listening and focus. At a time of increasing polarization and division in American society, the arts offer opportunities for collaboration, understanding and inspiration."
In addition to Burr & Burton Academy, the performance featured choirs from Shelburne Community School, Thetford Academy, Rivendell Academy, Bellows Free Academy St. Albans, Saint Michael's College, and Vermont State University at Castleton.  The concert concluded with all participating choirs singing the state song, These Green Mountains.  Congratulations to our singers for this prestigious recognition.
