A Beautiful Day for 10th Grade Service!

Yesterday, Burr and Burton 10th Graders stepped out of the classroom and into the community for a full day of hands-on service. From trail work in the mountains to planting trees and prepping gardens, students had the opportunity to work in the community on meaningful projects. Groups of students hiked into the Bromley Shelter on the Long Trail to repair its deck, moved mulch and cleaned up garden beds at the Manchester Community Garden, and helped plant trees around the pond at Smokey House in Danby in partnership with the Poultney Mettowee Natural Resources Conservation District.
Other students dug into spring gardening and animal care with a morning of planting and weeding at Hildene Farm, where they also had the chance to visit with goats at the dairy, or volunteered at Dorset Equine Rescue, cleaning up and caring for horses in need of new homes.

Some students stayed on campus, constructing insulating window inserts with Window Dressers, helping with science kit packing, and contributing to dance stage construction—each effort supporting sustainability and the wider school community.

In addition to these dedicated service projects, other 10th Graders will continue giving back as part of their regular spring coursework.

This year’s service day was a celebration of teamwork, stewardship, and the many ways students can make a positive impact close to home. Go, Bulldogs!
