Environmental Chemistry and Literature Takes to the Rivers

This week, 30 students in the Mountain Campus Environmental Chemistry and Literature course took to local rivers to investigate water quality, shifts in natural systems, and the human impacts of environmental change. Students began with field research at Utley Brook, adjacent to the BBA Mountain Campus, where they measured water depth, velocity, and nutrient levels before analyzing their findings in the Mountain Campus lab. They then traveled to Weston and Londonderry—communities impacted by recent flooding—to learn how residents are adapting to changes in the local environment.
Environmental Literature and Chemistry is a half-day honors or CP level course that sophomores can take at the BBA Mountain Campus. The course satisfies the Chemistry and English 2 requirements, and is taught fully within the school day with transportation provided from main campus. There is still room in the spring 2027 cohort! Interested rising sophomores should reach out to Rebecca Allen at rlallen@burrburton.org or Jill Perry-Balzano at jperrybalzano@burrburton.org or ask their school counselors for more details.
