Happy Fri-yay, It's Earth Day!

By Madi King '26

Tomorrow, May 2nd is BBA’s Earth Day celebration! The Environmental Club is hosting an array of activities around town and on campus to celebrate the world around us. Join in on the fun by getting your hands dirty and learning about nature.  Read on for the full list of activities!

After Erin Scott ‘26 attended the Youth Climate Leadership Academy a few months ago, she was tasked with coming up with a project that would bring more awareness to the environment. Scott asked the Environmental Club for planning help, “This was the first step to the Earth Day planning back in November.” Ms. Joyce, an Environmental Club advisor, said.

There will be a few activities throughout the day led by student volunteers. Each block has an indoor or outdoor activity teachers can choose from.

Note: If your teacher has chosen an activity, your whole class will go and participate--unless you signed up to go to The Mountain Campus for the day! If your teachers didn’t sign up for an activity and you didn't choose to go to The Mountain Campus you will attend class as usual.

The options include:

Road cleanup on Barnumville will be available for A, B and E block classes. This will be led by Sarah Blackey '28, Andrew Jacobs '28 and Student Council members who volunteered to collaborate. Teachers who signed their classes up will also be there to help chaperone.

The indoor option for those blocks will be watching the award winning film Kiss the Ground. The showing will be held in Riley Theatre!

Evelyne Martin '28 will be leading a relay race during both Friday lunches! There has been a huge problem with people on campus throwing trash in the wrong bins. Whoever can sort trash, compost and recycle the fastest will earn a prize, show up to find out what it might be!

If you have a CD block, (not C or D) get ready to get dirty! Skinner Hollow Farm will be holding an invasive species removal. Who doesn’t want to yank things out of the ground for a good cause?

During the final block of the day there will be a Trashion Show. Think fashion show but, well, trash! Student made outfits will be featured, made entirely out of recyclable materials or wasted trash. Haley Krug '28 will be running this event, bringing contestants classroom to classroom to show off their work.

So far 31 classes have signed up for activities and 30 students are headed to The Mountain Campus. Throughout the day there will be over 450 kids participating in the Earth Days celebration! If your classes are not signed up and you can’t make it to the Mountain Campus, join in during lunch!

Lastly, get yourself some new swag on Friday and purchase a Earth Day themed sweatshirt created by a BBA student. Fun Earth Day artwork by Addie Newbold '28 and Haley Krug '28.
