Jeff Grimshaw
BBA won the day and the 2 game season series by the slimmest of margins, digging deep to edge Mount Anthony.
"These are the matches that try coach's souls on both sides", said BBA Girls Tennis Head Coach, Jeff Grimshaw. "The day could have gone either way and with our depleted squad we showed real character and just would not take defeat for an answer.
MAU got off to a fast start as rising singles star, Bao Bao Shuang defeated BBA's Luna Bechstein in a one-sided, yet highly energetic match, 6-0, 6-1. BBA's Spencer North (#2) answered with a win over MAU's Hayleigh Loomis 6-3, 6-0. In #3 Singles, the Bulldog's Sarah Asciutto defeated the Patriots Carly Bylina, 6-2, 6-2. MAU evened the match score with a win in #1 Doubles as Chloe Gore & Lexi Gerow bested a game Emily Sullivan and Mac Thuermer in a three setter, 1-6, 6-1, TB 10-4. BBA went back ahead as Katie Kelly scrapped out a win over MAU's Lily Donahue 7-5, 6-2. The match score knotted once more when the Patriots #2 Doubles team of Regina MacDonald and Zoey Amaroso cruised to a 6-3, 6-1 victory over the Bulldogs pair of Amber Rachele and Evelyn Seidner. Then like so many nip and tuck high school matches it all came down to #5 singles: In a very closely contested match, BBA's Kali Brandt clipped MAU's Gabby Griffin-Leon 7-6, 7-5.
"We feel very fortunate to get out of Bennington with a very hard-fought win", said Grimshaw. BBA ups their season record to 6-1 while MAU who had been surging as of late, drops to 3-5.
