MANCHESTER — Burr and Burton senior captain Logan Morgan had a half-season worth of highlights in the first half of Saturday's Homecoming game against Mount Mansfield. Morgan caught a touchdown pass, ran for a touchdown and returned a pair of interceptions for scores — all in the opening 24 minutes — as BBA scored a 47-14 victory over the Cougars at Taylor Field. "We knew they were going to throw the ball a lot and we had to get a pass rush," said BBA coach Tom McCoy. "We were working on covering guys, dropping the linebackers. Logan made two unbelievable plays on the ball." The beginning of Morgan's heroics came on the first offensive play for Mount Mansfield. Cougars quarterback Owen Trudeau dropped back to pass and it was tipped at the line by BBA sophomore defensive lineman David Keyes. The ball popped into the air and right to Morgan, who brought it back 36 yards for the score to give the Bulldogs a 13-0 lead in the first four minutes of the contest. "I couldn't have done it without my defensive linemen, Keyes got his hands up at the right time and tipped it into my hands," Morgan said. After the BBA defense forced a 3-and-out, the offense came back out and marched down the turf, with quarterback Joey McCoy leading the way. On third-and-goal from the 5, Morgan took an option pitch and walked into the end zone to make it 20-0. "We practice all of our plays on offense and defense, we're just ready to come and play every week," Morgan said. Trudeau started to make some headway for the Cougars on the next drive, starting at its own 24. MMU got down to the Bulldog 21 and on a pass, Keyes tipped it again and Morgan grabbed it, bolting 76 yards for his second pick-six of the half. "I basically just saw open field and I had to take it," Morgan said. "I was going as fast as I could. I saw some lead blockers out there for me." Trudeau had a long touchdown on the next possession, finding Austin Wilcoxen behind the defense for a 81-yard catch and run to make it 27-7. Overall, Trudeau was 16-for-33 for 263 yards and two touchdowns, but also four interceptions. Morgan wasn't done yet, either. After McCoy intercepted Trudeau deep in the BBA end, it only took six plays for the Bulldogs to find paydirt, McCoy passing to Morgan for a 49-yard catch and run to make it 33-7 with 8:33 left in the first half. McCoy was 9-of-21 for 175 yards and the TD. "You hope you execute on game day and we were able to," Coach McCoy said. "I don't think Joey has thrown an interception this year. We did a good job of protecting him." After the touchdown, Morgan came out of the game for the day with a shoulder injury. "I have full motion, but I have to take it day-by-day," Morgan said. Sean Lam capped off the 40-point half for BBA with a 3-yard touchdown run with 2:38 left. With running time in the second half, Will Moore scored on a 4-yard touchdown run in the final minute of the third quarter. "Every week is different, sometimes it's the special teams, sometimes it's the defense and sometimes the offense is just clicking," McCoy said. BBA improves to 4-0 and travels down Route 7 to face Mount Anthony at Spinelli Field for the Patriots' homecoming.
