BBA Students go to school in the 1850s!

Ellen Murray
The 9th grade Workshop Humanities class is exploring the elements of culture and how students are influenced by their culture and the role they play in their culture.

The current unit is exploring Vermont culture and students had the opportunity to visit the Hollow School at Hildene. This is a one-room schoolhouse that offered students an opportunity to experience school as it was in 1852.

Students wrote on chalk tablets, used quill pens, experienced the fall chill and the need for a fire in the wood stove but best of all, they enjoyed “recess” and participated in the games that students enjoyed during the 1800s!
