Celebrating BBA Unified

On Monday, BBA was thrilled to host a special assembly celebrating Unified programs for the Special Olympics presentation of the Unified Champion School banner.

The assembly featured a drum circle, dancing, and a special Unified basketball warm up. Members from Special Olympics Vermont as well as the entire school community and honored guests cheered in celebration of Unified programs at Burr and Burton.

Special Olympics Vermont President and CEO Sarah McCaffrey shared her thoughts, “We are immensely proud of Burr and Burton Academy for achieving this well-deserved honor. Thanks to the hard work of the entire school community and dedication of school leadership, especially Assistant Athletic Director Julie Crosier, Burr and Burton has become a clear leader in the Unified Champion Schools movement in Vermont. Their commitment to the core values of inclusion and respect make their impact truly exceptional.”

Associate Head of School Meg Kenny connected Unified to Burr and Burton's core values: "When you look around this gym you see a lot of banners--they demonstrate accomplishments in athletics and sportsmanship. I am most proud of the national Unified Champion school banner that we are receiving today. This banner is a symbol of our core values in action. It will serve as a daily reminder that we are a school that welcomes all people--we work hard to foster and create a place of belonging for all."

Go Unified! Go Bulldogs!
