A Satisfying Team Win

Coach Mull
The Bulldogs had to overcome a number of obstacles Wednesday night, to exact revenge for their loss last week to Brattleboro at the John James Tournament. Down two starters -- Walker Brown and River DeFelice -- at the opening whistle, the Bulldogs lost another starter, Captain Will Fox 10 minutes into the game. Brattleboro then made a penalty kick save and scored an outstanding goal on a blistering howitzer from the left side to take a 1-0 lead into halftime. Nonplussed the Bulldogs looked to their bench and got outstanding minutes from Andrew Touissant, Max Hasaj, Elijah Samuelson, Phoenix Heleba, Mason Cox, and Devin Deets. After Cox and Hasaj left the game with injuries, the Bulldog ranks were even futher diminished. Enter sub on the wing, Johnny Miceli, who had a blistering run of his own down the left flank, turned the corner on the Brattleboro back, and tore up the endline. At just the right moment he slotted the ball low and hard to the top of the six where forward Niall Monahan punched it home to tie it up in the 58th minute. Ten minutes later, Monahan again figured in a scoring play when he sent a long cross to the right where defensive midfielder Jayden Bloom unloaded a howitzer of his own from 30 yards out to the upper left back of the net. "Not surprising", the bench commented. "He does it all the time in practice." The coaching staff praised the solid defensive play of the back line, Luke Lehman, Jake Giering, Declan Sullivan; the defefensive middies, Captain Duncan Chamberlain, and senior goalie Liam Day. Giering, in particular, had a game saving clear off the goal line. While the coaching staff was very pleased with how their new system worked, it was the tenacity of the Bulldogs on the field that won the game. BBA faces long-time rival Fair Haven in their Homecoming game Friday at 7:00 pm on Applejack Field.
