February Updates from School Counseling

Emily Kohler
February School Counseling Bullhorn

February is a short month but a lot is happening! Seniors are making plans for their time after high school, juniors are preparing for standardized testing, sophomores are connecting with counselors to think about their possibilities after high school, and freshmen are continuing their transition and working on building a strong foundation for their high school years.

We want to start off the month by acknowledging that February 6-10 is National School Counseling Week. The theme of this year’s week is “School Counselors: Helping Students Dream Big.” Whatever you need to be successful at school – whether that’s learning how to stay motivated to complete your work, having positive relationships with your fellow students, advocating for yourself or overcoming barriers – we’re here for it. Sometimes achieving your dreams IS hard, but we’re here to help you not give up.

2023-2024 Course Requests
The 2023-24 Course of Study (COS) PDF version will soon be published to the BBA website under the Academics header in the Departments and Courses section. Once published, the freshmen (2026), sophomores (2025), and juniors (2024) will be notified so they can begin reviewing course options and planning for the upcoming school year. This release will provide them time to discuss offerings, course prerequisites, and graduation requirements with counselors, teachers, and parents before actually selecting courses.

Students will have time to review courses during their advisories and should watch their email for more information about selecting their courses. Please contact your student’s counselor if you have questions.

Junior Meetings
Speaking of course requests and planning for your future, it is this time of year that Juniors should be scheduling their very important Junior Meetings with their counselor. Use the links below to schedule an extended time to chat!

Senior Scholarship Reminder
The scholarships listed can be found on our website here. Due to the confidentiality of recommendations, students must complete the required Google forms to notify Mrs. Kohler of their application submission. See Mrs. Kohler with questions.

As a reminder, the VSAC Unified Scholarship Deadline is February 15.

Deadline Extended - Standardized Testing Payments
All students who have registered to take the SAT or ACT at BBA this Spring should bring in payment to Mrs. Kohler in School Counseling before by Friday, February 10. The cost of the SAT is $55 and the ACT is $60. Fee waivers are available for eligible students, so please see your counselor. Payment can be accepted in the form of cash or a check made out to BBA.
